Care Instructions

Niwaki Sharpening Stones work for just about every edged blade:

• #220: coarse, for rough blades
• #1000: fine, for regular sharpening - the most useful stone for every day sharpening
• #3000: super fine, for honing and detailed work

How to use Sharpening Stones:

• Soak stones in water for a few minutes before use, and keep wet during use
• Use the concave edge of the stone, moving from the pivot towards the tip of the blade, following the curve as you go
• Note: For straight bladed shears, use the flat side of the stone
• Sharpen back and forth along the whole length of the blade. This is a gentle action - don’t use too much pressure
• Use as much of the stone as possible, not just the top inch
• Next, turn the secateurs over, and use the flat side of the stone to smooth the burr off the inside of the blade, going slightly over, creating a very fine bevel
• Use the convex edge of the stone to clean off the curved edge of the bypass
• Finally, clean and dry the secateurs, and wipe with Camellia Oil

Tip: Use the #1000 grit for a few minutes every week to keep your secateurs in top condition

Important Update for SA, NSW, ACT & QLD Customers

Due to updated Government biosecurity requirements, all orders containing potted plants must now undergo treatment and inspection for Tomato Potato Psyllid (TPP) prior to dispatch.

As this process has recently been introduced, some orders may experience slightly longer processing times while these procedures are implemented and streamlined during early 2026.

We kindly ask customers in the affected states to allow additional time for dispatch. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

QLD Orders

To meet treatment and inspection scheduling, orders must be placed by 12pm Friday to be shipped the following Tuesday. Orders received after this time will be dispatched the subsequent week.

A $5.00 quarantine inspection surcharge applies to orders delivered to QLD to cover the additional inspection and compliance requirements.
